Bestseller

We are down to 3 rolls. Although I've been disinfecting my car, both J's and my hands since February, we never expected to run out of TP, so we never bought it when we could. I checked Amazon today:

Time to start hunting. I have noticed that toilet paper supplies depends by chain. So you might want to try a different type of store. You can also ask facebook groups.

Why this is in short supply = mystery!

Facebook can be a saviour these days. I am on a regional facebook group and launched out a message to everyone where to find flour. I got tons of suggestions. Its a new form of crowdsourcing.

As for the why ... all of the articles online and in the newspaper listed tp and paper products as essential products to purchase in preparation for a quarantine. That, and the emptying shelves created a panic in purchasing.

My car had a *long* service appointment in mid-February, and to keep me from crawling out of my skin and harassing the nice automotive techs while they worked on it, Jim took me to Costco, where we stocked up on all the stuff we usually stock up on as pre-winter prep (because I was reading the news and figured that quarantines were coming): beans, rice, canned veggies, pasta, etc. WE FORGOT T.P.! And then we laughed all the way home, because who (in the old days) would go to Costco and forget to buy the mega-pack of toilet paper? The next day I stopped at Winco for bulk dried fruit (they don't carry that at Costco) and got a big pack of T.P.

The next week, the world went crazy. People who apparently have never gotten stranded in bad weather were freaking the f--k out and buying TP and bottled water. It was nuts. Not like your tap water is contagious, you freaks.

Because I've been reading those "worst case scenario" books and "almost everybody dies of plague" books my whole life, we prepped the way we always prep, and we're fine. I did a big run to the grocery store last weekend and topped up on flour (everybody is baking bread? So there are only 5-lb bags?) and vegetables. Plus salsa: apparently, when we are confined, everybody in my house wants salsa. Who knew? And I got a 4-pack of TP because that was the limit, and hey, in a month and a half since I bought TP we've probably used 4 rolls.

So now we're back to being fine, except I spilled half-a-carton of salsa when I was prying the lid off. Damn. I really love salsa.
